The Pine County Chemical Health Coalition was established in 2003. They initially formed with a focus on the use and manufacturing of methamphetamine. Since, they have supported, implemented and funded various efforts toward the betterment of the overall health of Pine County. In 2015, they began to explore the benefits of prevention. In July of 2016, the Pine County Health and Human Services department was blessed to be awarded a one million dollar, five-year grant focusing on prevention, specifically, of underage drinking.

Two statistics that drive our prevention efforts are:

  1. Research shows that people who start drinking before the age of 15 are 4 times more likely to develop an alcohol dependence later.
  2. Tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana are the first addictive substances most people try.
